POCO M8 5G Coming on January 8 — 120Hz Screen, Slim Design… Is This the Best Phone Under ₹15,000?

POCO M8 5G

If you’re planning to buy a new budget 5G phone in the new year, POCO has something interesting lined up. The company is getting ready to launch the POCO M8 5G in India, and the first teasers already give a fair idea of what this phone is bringing.

Launch Date and Availability

POCO has confirmed that the M8 5G will launch in India on January 8 at 12 PM. The phone will be sold on Flipkart, and its microsite is already live. In the teasers, the phone shows up in a dual-tone design with a big camera module at the back — simple, but eye-catching.

Display and Design

The POCO M8 5G is expected to come with a 6.77-inch AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3200 nits peak brightness. Gorilla Glass 7i protection may also be included.

POCO says the phone is just 7.35mm thick and weighs around 178 grams, so it should feel fairly light in hand. The rear panel has a patterned finish with a flat frame and a bold camera island that gives it a slightly premium look.

Performance and Hardware

Inside, the phone is likely to run on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 6GB or 8GB RAM in India. On paper, this setup looks good for day-to-day use, social media, light gaming and multitasking. Real performance, of course, will be clearer once reviews come out.

Battery and Charging

The POCO M8 5G may pack a 5,520mAh battery along with 45W fast charging. The capacity is decent, but in this price range we’ve started seeing bigger batteries too — so some users may wish it was slightly larger. Still, with good optimization, it should comfortably last a full day.

Cameras

POCO is expected to offer a dual-rear camera setup with a 50MP main sensor, along with a secondary lens. For selfies and video calls, a 20MP front camera may be included. How the cameras actually perform will only be known after the launch and real-world testing.

Price and Competition

The POCO M8 5G is expected to start around ₹15,000, while the higher variant could touch ₹18,000. At this price, it will go up against phones like Redmi Note 15, Realme 15T, Infinix GT 30 and a few other popular mid-budget options.

Should You Wait for It?

If POCO delivers what it’s promising — good display, 5G and a slim design — the M8 5G could turn into a solid everyday phone. But if battery life or heavy gaming is your main priority, it might be smarter to wait for reviews first and compare alternatives. Since a lot of details are still based on leaks, the final picture will only be clear after the official launch.
