Google Pixel 10a Launching Feb 18: Flat Camera Design, 5,100mAh Battery and Smart AI Tools

Google has confirmed the launch of its affordable Pixel 10a. In a YouTube teaser, the company said the AI-powered phone will be revealed on 18 February. Positioned as the most budget-friendly member of the Pixel 10 family, the Pixel 10a is designed to bring premium AI capabilities to a lower price point. Its announcement comes a few weeks before Apple is widely expected to unveil a cheaper iPhone 17e in March.

A notably flatter camera design

The teaser gives a clear look at the phone’s design. Overall the Pixel 10a keeps a familiar Pixel silhouette, but the biggest visual change is the rear camera treatment. Google has moved away from the raised “bumper” used on the Pixel 9a and instead shows a fully flat rear camera area — a “flash” style finish that sits flush with the back.

With many phones now favouring large, chunky camera modules, the Pixel 10a’s flat rear aims for a more sober, premium appearance. Volume and power buttons are placed on the right frame.

Pixel 10a Specifications (leaked)

According to leaks, the Pixel 10a could feature a 6.28-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with support for a 120Hz refresh rate. For battery, the device is said to pack a 5,100mAh cell — larger than the Pixel 10’s 4,970mAh. Charging details haven’t been confirmed, but 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging are both reported as possibilities.

The Pixel 10a is expected to have a dual rear camera setup. Leaks name a 48MP Quad PD main sensor with an f/1.7 aperture, paired with a 13MP ultra-wide lens at f/2.2. For selfies and video calls, a 13MP front camera (f/2.2) is mentioned.

Google has long offered up to seven years of Android OS updates for some Pixel models, and the Pixel 10a is also expected to come with a similar seven-year update commitment.

Premium AI features in an entry-level phone

The Pixel A series is important for Google because it brings budget buyers into the Pixel ecosystem. The Pixel 10a will support Google’s latest Gemini features, which the article describes as more advanced than Apple’s “Apple Intelligence.” Two Gemini features highlighted are:

  • Gemini Live — enabling conversational, human-like interaction on the phone.
  • Circle to Search — draw a circle on any photo or video to search within it.

Launch Strategy Ahead of Apple and Samsung

Google picked February for the Pixel 10a launch to get ahead of expected launches from Apple and Samsung. Apple may announce its lower-cost iPhone 17e in March, while Samsung is preparing its Galaxy S26 flagship series.

Google appears to be aiming to strengthen its position in markets such as India, Japan and the US before those rival product launches. In price-sensitive markets like India, a Pixel 10a that delivers a premium feel at a lower cost could help grow Google’s market share.

Pixel 10 Series: Full Lineup, Price and Colours

The Pixel 10 family is expected to include:

  • Pixel 10a: entry-level device (lowest price).
  • Pixel 10: starting price ₹75,000.
  • Pixel 10 Pro: 6.3-inch display, ₹1.10 lakh.
  • Pixel 10 Pro XL: 6.8-inch model, ₹1.25 lakh.
  • Pixel 10 Pro Fold: foldable, ₹1.73 lakh.

The Pixel 10a is said to launch globally in four colour options: Obsidian, Lavender, Berry and Fog.

Launch date and Google Store offer

Google announced on X that the Pixel 10a will launch on 18 February. The company has not revealed official pricing yet. Google Store subscribers who sign up for updates by 13 February at 1:29pm IST can claim an exclusive offer; Google says this offer can be used with the Pixel 10a purchase for benefits on future orders.

Is the Pixel 10a a good deal?

The Pixel 10a could be an attractive choice for buyers who want:
• a clean Android experience
• strong camera quality
• long software updates
• a fresh design and trendy colours

Although the price may feel a little high to some, Pixel branding and camera performance could give the 10a a premium edge.
